Abstract

Based on a detailed study of literature on the Pentecostal-charismatic movement (with an emphasis on the German-speaking regions, in particular on churches with a strong immigration background) the following phenomena have been identified: A Pentecostal-charismatic theology has arisen following a period of rejection of theological reflection. This is dominated by authors from North America and Europe, although the centres of the movement are located in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Pentecostal-charismatic immigrant churches are multifaceted and are largely isolated from one another and from the established Christian gatherings in Germany. Using the example of the Sinti-Roma congregations it can be shown that membership of a Pentecostal-charismatic church supports the growth of a cultural identity. Within other Christian groups like the Roman Catholic Church and the Evangelical Alliance a growing acceptance of Pentecostal-charismatic movement can be observed.
