Abstract

The language of the sermon must be appropriate to the listener and to the changing conditions of his listening, as well as to the gospel, in order to achieve its aim and be understandable. Essential factors here are the speakers and their attitude to the message and a non-manipulative contact to the listener, which takes regard of the listener both intellectually and emotionally. The relationship of the listener to matters of faith must also be taken into account. Using examples and role models, among these Jesus himself, and explaining the necessity of using a suitable translation of the sermon text, these basic principles are developed and demonstrated. Prayer is also an essential factor concerning the sermon and the language of the sermon.
