Churches have a life-cycle, a period of downturn can develop into a dying phase. However, dying churches can be reanimated by God. A presupposition for this is that the church recognises its misery and does not define itself by its glorious past. A new beginning should be initiated as early as possible and not be impeded by false self-perceptions or refusal to suffer. The “replant” conception involves starting anew, whereby toxic cultures, dysfunctional structures and obstructive traditions must be discarded. Therefore, in the case of a replant, the existing work of the church is shut down and new work under the leadership of a replant team initiated. This process imposes high demands on the replanters and remaining church members.
