Abstract

The author gives a very personal insight in the current modern German Christian music scene. Social networks, inexpensive technology, and the possibilities of digital distribution are conducive to the formation of many Christian bands, whereby the general public is becoming increasingly aware of such bands. Fine opportunities for young musicians to acquire a musical education are nurturing this development. The author presents some of these initiatives. Tensions arising from differing expectations in music styles can often be reduced through dialogue. Songs by secular artists can also find a place in congregational worship, as these often have spiritual and inter-personal themes.
